Hello guys and Happy Sunday to you all!
Today I have a very highly requested post all about my current tanning routine and the products I like to use to achieve the perfect tan at home. Being a beauty blogger I get to test a lot of different products and share my thoughts with you, so keep on reading if you want to know what I’m currently using and loving.
I used to be a St.Tropez girl and always rave and swear by their products but I have recently been converted 🙂 So in todays post I will be sharing with you my new obsession, which is the luxury Vita Liberata Phenomenal 2-3 week Tan Mousse. What you first need to know is that, in order to achieve long lasting results, the instructions recommend that you apply one coat, then rinse off thoroughly with warm water after 6 to 24 hours and repeat the process, 3 applications are required for a tan which lasts up to 3 weeks. So don’t be tricked into thinking that one coat will give you that long lasting tan, and always make sure you read the instructions. They also recommend that you exfoliate your skin thoroughly, but do not moisturise within 24 hours of applying the product as this could affect tan development. You’re also supposed to avoid any shower products that contain oils as these will strip the tan from your skin.
I use the Vita Liberata own mitt to apply my tan but any decent quality tanning mitt will do fine, I normally use St.Tropez or St.Moritz. I start off by applying a very thin layer of moisturiser carefully onto my knees, ankles, wrists and elbows about 5 or 10 minutes before applying the tan. I always do this to prevent any dark patches which can so often accumulate there if you’re not careful, as the skin is normally quite dry. A quick wipe with the remaining residue on the mitt is sufficient for the backs of the hands. You can also use a towel or a big fluffy bronzer brush to lightly buff over problem areas (such as the knees) after applications which really helps to blend in the tan more naturally.
The product has a tint to it, which does help with ensuring an even application but also shows on light coloured clothing, this is why I always self-tan before bed. I would normally wait around 15 minutes for the product to dry and then wear some loose-fitting dark clothing for sleeping and make sure I have dark bedding on my bed, although if it does transfer it would come out in the wash.
When I wake up the next morning, I follow the instructions and thoroughly wash off any residue with warm water (not hot and no shower gel) I’m left with a medium, very natural-looking tan, such a nice shade or brown, not orange or fake looking whatsoever.
Next, I apply a second layer the next evening. This gives me more of a medium-dark tan, a lot more noticeable, but still very natural. I wouldn’t normally do a 3rd application as I do not want to get too dark. The colour after 2 applications lasts about 10 days on me before starting to gradually fade.
It mostly fades evenly, although I did notice a little patchiness on my chest (where my bra rubs) and also on my wrists but it scrubbed away easily with a flannel and reverted to looking natural again.
So overall I absolutely love this tan, the only negative thing would probably be the price £37 (here) but I think I can justify it as it did last for good couple of weeks, was very easy to apply and gave me such a natural looking tan. Other benefits include the fact that this tan does not have any horrible, giveaway fake tan smell and it’s also very natural and actually good for your skin, full of organic and anti-ageing ingredients as opposed to other tans that are full of chemicals.
I have also been using a couple of other products from Vita Liberata to prep my skin ready for tanning application and also maintain a long lasting tan. The day before tanning I’d exfoliate my body using the Super Fine Skin Polish Moisturising Exfoliator* which is really gentle but still great for prepping your skin ready for application. This scrub contains some lovely natural ingredients including Beeswax and Sweet Almond to soothe, condition and nourish your skin. I love how soft my skin is after using this polish.
I have also been using the Moisture Boost Body Treatment Luxury Hydration* lotion I would apply it every single day to maintain my tan and help it last longer. It’s such a nice moisturiser it makes my skin soft, it doesn’t irritate it contains anti-ageing ingredients and a moisture locking system which basically means it will keep you hydrated for up to 72 hours, although I like to moisturise daily.
So that’s my current tanning routine and I hope you find it helpful and informative. I would love to know what are your favourite tanning products/scrubs/moisturisers so feel free to share in the comments below. I’m always looking to try new products so any recommendations from you guys would be amazing.
Have an awesome Bank Holiday Weekend and Happy Sunday! Victoria xo
