Backstage Trend Report with Maybelline New York & KMS California for Bora Aksu SS17 Fashion Show / LFW

Day 1 of London Fashion Week started in the best possible way; by attending one of my favourite designers show – Bora Aksu. I was very kindly invited backstage by Maybelline New York, to check out the beauty trends for Spring/Summer 2017 before they hit the catwalk.

Lead makeup artist Sharon Dowset demonstrated how to create a really fresh, natural look using some of Maybelline’s new products including: Fit Me Matte & Poreless foundation, The Falsies Push Up Drama mascara, Rock Nudes eyeshadow palette, Baby Lips and Colour Drama Lip Kohl pencil. She perfected the skin by applying a little foundation and blending it seamlessly, using a tiny bit of Baby Lips to apply to the apples of the cheeks for a natural flushed look, a coat of mascara and the taupe and ivory shadows from the Rock Nudes palette to keep eyes looking very natural. Sharon finished off with Colour Drama Lip Kohl for that just bitten lip effect. I really enjoyed watching the techniques to create this makeup look and I did film a part of it which I’m going to include in my London Fashion Week video vlog (it will be up on my YouTube channel this week)

Now onto the hair; lead stylist James Pecis and his team created some beautiful braids with a lot of fluffy texture around the face, again very feminine and innocent look which I loved. The inspiration for the collection came from a story of Bora’s grandmother during times of poverty and a beautiful sentiment of giving her what she never had. So James wanted the hair to really reflect that era. All the products he used were by KMS California including KMS Addvolume Root & Body Lift, Airplay Makeover spray, Airplay Playable Texture and Hairstay Medium Hold spray.

The show began with a series of intricately worked pieces in a muted palette of blush, black and white. Crafted from delicately worked lace and silks, they floated around the body so beautifully! I loved the sunset tones – orange, fuchsia, pink, and yellow, also the pastel shades. Another big trend that I’m very exited for was the beautiful flower crowns some of the models were wearing, which really complimented their hairstyles. Such a romantic collection with a very vintage feel to it, which I just adored!

It really was such a beautiful show, the actual venue was transformed into a heavenly Ivy Garden with some really pretty ivy foliage hanging off the walls, balcony and grand staircase, perfection!

Thank you for reading, Victoria xo
